Wedgewood Pharmacy today announced the availability of a GS-441524 formula, a compounded oral antiviral formulation now part of its feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) treatment capabilities. With this addition, veterinarians can now prescribe both GS-441524 and Molnupiravir for their patients, two of the most requested compounded antivirals for FIP, through a single trusted source backed by pharmacist support and FDA-registered ingredient sourcing.

Wedgewood Pharmacy has acquired Front Range Laboratories (FRL) in Loveland, CO, which is a full-service testing laboratory that has been a trusted partner of compounding pharmacies for more than 25 years. The transaction closed on February 23; terms were not disclosed. Excel Partners served as financial advisor to Wedgewood Pharmacy.

A new nationwide poll of veterinary practices shows that 69% of veterinary practices are not confident they are prepared to comply with provisions of the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) Guidance for Industry #256, Compounding Animal Drugs from Bulk Drug Substances, which was finalized on April 13, 2022. The Guidance is slated to be “enforced” beginning October 1, 2022.

Wedgewood Pharmacy has been named the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA) preferred provider for compounding services. AAHA has more than 4,500 accredited veterinary practice and hospital members. It is the only exclusive North American companion-animal veterinary association, serving nearly 50,000 individual veterinary providers. The New York State regulatory authorities have issued a license to Wedgewood Connect (San Jose CA) to offer compounded medications for office use to veterinarians in New York. Marcy A. Bliss, chief executive officer for Wedgewood Pharmacy, was named the 2021 recipient of the George and Lucy Malmberg Compounding Advocacy Champion Award by the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding during a ceremony in Washington DC. The annual award, established in 2020, is given to recognize individuals who have engaged in “zealous advocacy on behalf of compounding pharmacy to protect prescribers’ and patients’ access to compounded medications.”

Michael Blaire, R.Ph., FIACP, vice president Government and Regulatory Affairs for Wedgewood Pharmacy, has been named the 2021 recipient for Arizona of the Bowl of Hygeia Award, granted by a cooperative of national pharmacy associations. Established in 1958, the annual award is given by state, provincial, and national pharmacist associations in the United States and Canada to recognize pharmacists who have “outstanding records of civic leadership and encourage pharmacists to take active roles in their communities.” In addition to service through their local, state, and national pharmacy associations, award recipients devote their time, talent, and resources to a variety of causes and community service.
