Norsk Hydro: Hydro's first quarter results 2025

Member of the Board of Directors in Norsk Hydro ASA, Jane Toogood, has on March 25, 2025, bought 1,000 shares in Hydro at GBP 4.95 per share. New holding is 1,000 shares.

Aluminium and renewable energy company Hydro is investing in building a new wire rod casthouse at its aluminium smelter in Karmøy, Norway. The new facility will supply aluminium for use in critical energy infrastructure in Europe and is expected to start production in 2028.

Peter Kukielski has announced his intention to resign from the Board of Directors of Norsk Hydro ASA at the Annual General Meeting on May 9, 2025.

2024 was characterized by increasing geopolitical tensions and unpredictability. Despite challenging market conditions, Hydro is strengthening its position in the market. Hydro is on a solid path executing on its 2030 ambition of pioneering the green aluminium transition, powered by renewable energy.

The Board of Directors of Norsk Hydro ASA have decided to propose to the General Meeting a dividend of NOK 2.25 per share on the basis of the company’s financial statements for the financial year 2024.

Hydro’s adjusted EBITDA for the fourth quarter of 2024 was NOK 7,701 million, up from NOK 3,737 million in the same quarter last year. The results increased from higher alumina and all-in aluminium prices, and positive currency effects. This was partly offset by higher raw material costs, lower Extrusions volumes and recycling margins, higher fixed and other costs, including a tax settlement in Aluminium Metal and a provision for future social projects in Bauxite & Alumina. Hydro generated NOK 1.7 billion in free cash flow during the fourth quarter and 2024 adjusted RoaCE ended at 8.5 percent.

Norsk Hydro ASA has successfully issued EUR 500 million of senior unsecured green bonds under its Euro Medium Term Note (EMTN) Programme.  The new bond has a tenor of 7 years and a fixed annual coupon of 3.625 percent (3.649 percent reoffer yield).

Hydro and Northvolt have signed an agreement where Hydro will acquire the remaining shares in the battery recycler Hydrovolt for NOK 78 million. Hydro is increasing its ownership in Hydrovolt from 72 to 100 percent through this transaction.

On January 7, 2025, Hydro finalized the open market repurchase of the 2024-2025 buyback program as announced on September 10, 2024.

Hydro is pleased to invite investors, analysts, financial media and other stakeholders to its Capital Markets Day on November 27, 2024.

Correction is made to the quarterly results release made on October 24, 2024. The correction is related to adjusted RoaCE wrongly stated as 8.5 percent. The correct number is 7.2 percent.

As part of the reorganization plan of Markbygden Ett AB, also supported by Hydro, Hydro has agreed to a settlement for the long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with the company. In the settlement, Hydro is entitled to a compensation of up to EUR 248 million for its voluntary termination of the PPA.  

Hydro has decided to reduce its ownership in synthetic graphite producer Vianode, based in Norway, from 30 to 19.9 percent.

Hydro’s adjusted EBITDA for the third quarter of 2024 was NOK 7,367 million, up from NOK 3,899 million in the same quarter last year, positively impacted by higher aluminium and alumina prices, lower raw material costs and positive currency effects. This was partly offset by lower recycling margins, Extrusions volumes and Energy prices resulting in an adjusted RoaCE of 8.5 percent over the last twelve months and free cash flow of NOK 1.7 billion.

The Board of Directors of Norsk Hydro ASA has resolved to initiate a share buyback program to service its shareholders by way of reducing its share capital. The share buyback program will be executed in accordance with the authorization granted to the Board of Directors by the Annual General Meeting of Norsk Hydro held on May 7, 2024.

On September 6, the private equity fund Altor has exercised its put option, requiring Hydro to acquire additional 20 percent of Vianode, resulting in equal 50/50 ownership stake for both parties.

Hydro’s adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter of 2024 was NOK 5,839 million, positively influenced by increasing revenue drivers in the quarter. The second quarter adjusted EBITDA was down from NOK 7,098 million for the same quarter last year, negatively impacted by lower Extrusions volumes, recycling margins and Energy spot sales, and higher fixed costs. This was partly offset by higher alumina prices and lower raw material costs resulting in an adjusted RoaCE of 4.4 percent over the last twelve months and free cash flow of NOK 2.8 billion.

The Norwegian government, industry associations and trade unions have reached an agreement on the future of the Norwegian CO2 compensation scheme, valid from 2024 until 2030.

Eivind Kallevik has been appointed President and CEO of Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company Norsk Hydro ASA. Kallevik succeeds Hilde Merete Aasheim, who has decided to step down after five years. The appointment will be effective May 13, 2024.
