Mental health statistics show that approximately 1.1% of adults in the United States live with schizoaffective disorder, yet many lack access to proper resources and understanding. With his openness about his diagnosis, Covington aims to reduce stigma while demonstrating that mental health challenges need not define or limit personal achievement.

Covington served as a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman and Army National Guard medic during the Iraq War before transitioning to civilian life as a special education teacher. His military medical training provided him with unique insights into trauma and healing that inform his writing and current work with Special Olympics athletes.

The memoir follows Sam, a troubled Native American teen, and Chasity, a young woman from an abusive home, as they navigate their relationship across cultural and social divides. Their journey from high school romance through military service and college reflects many of Covington's own experiences, with love transcending societal barriers.

"This story explores the power of love and the human spirit to overcome personal struggles and societal barriers," said Covington. "My hope is that readers will find inspiration in the journey of resilience and healing." The book is available in paperback and Kindle formats through major retailers. Covington maintains his Buddhist practice, which he credits with helping him manage his mental health while pursuing his writing and advocacy work.
