The eight-week round-up initiative, which began on September 15 and concluded on Veterans Day, saw more than 157,000 Petsense by Tractor Supply customers donate an average of 81 cents at the point of sale. Nearly 20 percent of all transactions during the campaign included a donation to K9s For Warriors.
“This campaign is a powerful example of what can happen when communities come together for a shared cause,” said Neil Tenzer, Senior Vice President of Petsense by Tractor Supply. “Our customers, Team Members and partners rallied behind this mission to support both rescue dogs and veterans. We’re honored to help strengthen the bond between pets and people while making a meaningful impact where we live and serve.”
K9s For Warriors, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Ponte Vedra, Florida, provides highly trained service dogs to veterans with conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) at no financial cost to the Veteran. A majority of the dogs that are a part of K9s For Warriors’ program are rescued and train for roughly six to eight months before graduating and being paired with a veteran during a three-week residential training program at one of K9s For Warriors’ campuses in Florida or Texas.
“We are incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of Petsense by Tractor Supply to further our mission to end veteran suicide,” said Lindsay Grayson, Chief Revenue Officer at K9s For Warriors. “K9s For Warriors has the privilege every day to see the impact a Service Dog has on a veteran. With a battle buddy by their side, the veteran returns to a life with renewed confidence and independence. Petsense by Tractor Supply’s generosity allows us to save more lives at both ends of the leash.”
Tractor Supply and Petsense by Tractor Supply maintain ongoing partnerships with nonprofits serving the military and first responder communities year-round. Since launching the Hometown Heroes initiative in 2024, Tractor Supply and its Foundation have contributed more than $3 million to organizations that support the brave men and women who serve our communities. Donations from the Tractor Supply Foundation have helped sponsor five veteran and service dog pairs to date, including:
- Nathan & JR (November 2024): JR is named after Jim Wright, former Tractor Supply CEO and Chairman of the Board
- William & Charlie (December 2024): Charlie is named after Charles Schmidt, Tractor Supply’s Founder
- Darren & Scarlett (September 2025): Scarlett is named after Joe Scarlett, former Tractor Supply CEO
- Jacob & Murphy (September 2025): Murphy is named after Audie Murphy, who is widely celebrated as one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II
- Andrew & Rx (November 2025): Nicknamed Rex, Rx is named after Allivet, Tractor Supply’s pet pharmacy business
Among the most recent graduates supported through the Tractor Supply Foundation are Air Force Technical Sergeant Darren B. of Virginia and his Service Dog Scarlett, who graduated from K9s For Warriors in September 2025. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank Petsense by Tractor Supply and the Hometown Heroes program for this life-changing opportunity,” said Darren.
